The structure’s sunscreen and bird-watching plank are functional, sculptural elements, protecting the home from harsh Texas sun, while offering a quiet respite to disengage and track the many bird species inhabiting the preserve.

The forms of the structure were drawn from an existing hillside overlooking a quiet lake, creating direct access to the lake from an outdoor terrace defined by the home’s main structure above.
